Watching the table above, we can conclude that:
_ We can use SOME and ANY with plural nouns and non-count nouns.
Ex.: He needs to drink some water.
I need some apples for the pie.
I don’t have any candies.
There isn’t any space here.
IMPORTANT: with singular count nouns, we use A and AN.
Ex.: I want to eat an apple
I’m going to buy a car.
But:
_ We use SOME with affirmative sentences.
Ex.: I’d like some juice please.
_ We use ANY with negatives sentences.
Ex.: I’m afraid we don’t have any juice.
_ In questions, we can use both. We use SOME when we expect “yes” in response, as when we are asking and offering something, though.
Ex.: Would you like some pop?
Do you have any mechanical pencil with you?
_ The same rules apply to SOMETHING and ANYTHING.
Ex.: Would you like something to eat? Do you know anything about it?
I don’t know anything about it.
But Carlos knows something about it.
